my daughter is 13 and 5 months old and hasnt yet started her periods.
she has developed breasts, has pubic hair and hair under her arms and her curves are all there, she also, sometimes, has discharge. all the signs are there to say she should be having her period and have been there for about a year now maybe more!!
should i be worried yet? i was only 11 and my mother was even younger when our periods started.

" My 13 y/o daughter is haveing the same "symptoms" as your daughter and also has not yet gotten her period . My 11 year old daughter got hers 6 months ago. Recently I spoke to her dr. because i was also worried. The dr said that she was ok and when her body was ready she would get it. I think that she is ok but if she dosen't get her perid soon you should speak her dr. Good luck. "

" I agree with the other poster. Likely that her body just isn't that far that. But if in 6 more months I'd definately ask the doctor and maybe take her to a gynocologist just to be sure. "

" I agree also... give her body a little more time to work on its own, but if she hasnt started having them by the time she is 14, then talk to her doctor about it. "

" My daughter was a gymnast and didn't get her's until she was a Freshman in highschool. She had no bodyfat and it slowed her growth down (among other things!). It sounds like it might happen soon so give it time, I'm sure she'll get it. "

" i have heard that as long as a girl starts her period before she turns 18 its perfectly normal and you should not worry about it because everybody developes at a diffrent speed.my daughter has had hers since she was 11 but i did not get mine until i was 16.so dont panic but i agree with all the others talk with the doctor about it. "

" I agree with all above. Everyone is different and she may be progressing normally for her.

I once heard (don't know how correctly I'm describing this) that it requires a certain amount of body fat to transport the hormones for puberty, so if your daughter is on the thinner side....give her a few months.

If you are still concerned....a gyno appt is a harmless and good idea. There are disorders that can prevent a girl from menstrating. "
