More Potty Training Woes

My son will be four in three months and is STILL not potty trained! When my mother-in-law was staying with my family to help out with the kids, he was almost trained because she would put him on the potty and make him sit until he did something or until it was apparent that he just wasn't going to do anything. By the time she left, he was asking for his potty when he had to urinate (no asking for "the other thing"). Anyway, when my mother-in-law left, I took my kids to a babysitter where he did not get that scheduled potty time, so my son regressed and never got back to where he was with asking to "pee-pee" in the potty. We are still struggling to get him to go to the potty without our prompting him to do so, but at least he will urinate when we put him on the potty. The big problem is getting him to "boo-boo" in the potty. He will actually urinate and then get up and put on a Pull-up to do "the other thing"! This enrages me!!! Twice I have had to physically put him back on the potty myself with him struggling against me like he's terrified or something. Tonight, I asked him if his "boo-boo" scares him and he shook his head yes. I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!! Can anyone offer any help on this?

" i babysat a boy like this. he was almost four and not potty trained. he parents were very casual with his training. if he asked to go to the potty, they took him, if he didn't (a lot in my case), they changed his pull-up or diaper while he was standing up. here are a few thing i would try that seemed to work for me:

ask him hourly if he has to go to the bathroom
always change him in the bathroom
take him in with you while you're using the toilet
be very congratulatory when he goes or even just sits

in your case i wouldn't show anger when he poops in his pull-ups. also, you should tell him about his poop and why he shouldn't be scared of it. ask him why he is scared. it may just be an embarrassment thing (maybe the sound). "

" My son was hard he is my oldest and I was pulling my hair out! I will tell you what we do. I had started and stopped several times before he turned 3 and he was fastly approaching age 3 and my son was big so in the last pull up size too!

I took his pull ups away during the day at home. he can only wear them at night or when we were out. He was extremely attached to them so he hated this!

I bought a timer and set it so when it when off he knew it was potty time! We set it every 1-2 hours. If he went at lets say 3PM then I would set it for 2 hours later but if he didn't go I would set it for an hour later and keep shortening the time till he did go.

Within a week of no pull ups he was MOSTLY peeing on the potty! So at that point we made a train sticker chart and every time he peed he put the sticker on and when it was full we went to the 99 cent store and he could pick a prize. This worked wonders with him!!!

These are the few things that helped with my son and he had pee down by 3 1/2 poop took longer I would say alittle after 4 completely. he also has constipation issues so we think thats why he struggled so long.

Try to be postive..I know its hard and I can't say I was always this way. I felt like we were training for years! LOL "
