Changing diaper nightmare

Oh.. my girl has been refusing most of the time to lay down to change her diaper. it is to the point that most of the time she is standing when we change her diaper (unless it is poopy).
hubby thinks she may be clausterphobic... I just think she is stubborn (same nightmare stories about me at her age) so potty training is SOON!! she has shown interest, but I need to gradually do it since I am due to have another baby in less than 4 weeks. anyone else have a "stander" to change diapers? any tips? She is rarely distracted by toys or other things... just bossy and wants to sit, stand, or crawl off the table. Posted on 06/26/08, 05:06 pm |

Easy-ups! by pampers. Have absorbency of diapers, but slip on like underwear. We found these when our son started refusing to lay down on changing tables in public restrooms. (love kneeling on the floor there... yuck!) I think he was on one that was unstable (or not level) and he got scared. The only problem is that they don't have velcro sides, you have to tear them. But they come smaller than pull-ups.
Oh, have you tried changing her on the bed or floor? Is it that she is afraid to lie down or just doesn't want to. Bed works when my son starts freaking out about falling.

I cured my 17 month old with one teeny-tiny swat on the bare rear and a stern no.

My daughter was like this for a while and still can be, but what seemed to cure her was that at day care she now gets a sticker if she's good about her nappy change. At home, she doesn't get a sticker, but she co-operates anyway. I think she's realised that Mommy gives her smiles and kisses her tummy if she co-operates, which doesn't happen if Mommy has to wrestle her. LOL!
BTW, DD is 22 months and some change

We have to use the pull-ups anyways.. she outgrew the regular diapers a while ago. She is now in 3T-4T pull-ups (she is really tall)
the floor is not good either. For one i am really pregnant and it is hard for me to get to the floor... but when i try the floor, it is worse. I had an elbow on her shoulders and hubby had to come help. I know this is Karma from when I was her age... I broke my parents ribs a few times from diaper changes.

My son went through this a few months ago. We forced him to lay down and sang to him or gave him a toy - but it sounds like she is not easily distracted by toys, coupled with the fact that you are pregnant and man I know just how hard it is to get down to the floor and to get back up again. I would try potty training - go to walmart and get a cute potty and maybe reward her when she is successful. Also maybe books for her about potty training. Good Luck! You've got your hands full. : )

My daughter does the same thing. She won't use the potty either. She demands to wear a diaper. I haven't figured out what to do about that yet. The pull ups really helped me though.

My little boy does this but not with wee wee with poo poo!!! I am gonna give toilet training a bash this weekend. I have been told and when you think about it, it is correct, that diapers and nappies these days are made to absorb water so a child cannot necessarily feel when they have wet ... apparently the trick is to put on a pair of pants and then the diaper/nappy over this and they learn that way!!! Whether it works or not is another matter .... lol plus lots more washing.

My little man as always hated changing time, he is better now at 22 months. I started singing a song to him every change. To the tune of "Spider Man Spiderman":
didie time, didie time, look out now it's didie time. don't you fret, don't you whine, look out it's Didie time! He seems lo like it :)

my girl used to always want her diaper changed immediately!! she would ask while she was peeing or whatnot. She has shown lots of interest in the potty.. so we got her a seat for it. She has sat on it a couple times, but I think I lost the moment since it is really hard for me to bend down and stuff. Our bathroom is TINY... so i can't squat down near her without hitting my butt on the tub and my forehead on the sink.
She wants to stand to change her diaper... but not going to happen when she poops.. no way- that would be a mess. the floor is not an option since she gets worse. She likes to help, so she will sometimes help by holding her new diaper and wait to hand it to me.. or to hold her powder or whatever... or her change of clothes. I think I just need to wait it out until the baby is born and just get her into the potty training. she wants to do it... but just not steady enough for my unbalanced preggo self. i feel like I missed the opportunity and now I am back tracking. oh... and did I mention she is about 30 pounds at least... she is a heavy, tall girl! (not fat though) she is just right. the lady at the bank today called her an amazon... freakishly tall... I was almost offended, but then I thought.. she really is.
