Skinny-butt son's pants fall down

My son is tall and lean (90th percentile for height and 5th percentile for weight). He eats like a horse (literally, some days he eats more than I do).

So our problem is finding pants that fit him. I've tried Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree, Children's Place, and on and on. He is almost 20 months old and he can still fit into 6-12 mo pants (but they are way too short). If they fit in the waist, than they are capri length. And if they fit in the length, than they are huge in the waist and the diaper won't even keep them up. I tried adding drawstrings to a couple of pairs, but that just makes them look so silly.

Any suggestions?

" We have the same problem with our girls. Most stores--Childrens Place, JCPenney, etc..--have started to make pants with adjustable waists. They are like the maternity pants with the elastic in the waist that you adjust with a button.

I just called the local Childrens Place and they said that they carry the adjustable waist pants for boys, starting at size 24 months. They may still be too big for him now, but at least you'll be able to get them for him in a few months.

HTH, Maggie "

" That is exactly the same problem I'm having with my daughter right now. I'm just glad it's getting warmer so capris are ok to wear. "

" I have the same problem with my little girl. If they fit her in the waist then they are way too short and if the length is right then they're just too big and fall off. I actually have a few belts that I've found at most children's clothes stores. The elastic adjustable pants that maggielooop suggested also work really well. It's even come down to me sewing them in a bit until she can fit into them.

I think this is actually a pretty typical problem most have with their kids pants. Maybe we should all get together and write a letter to the designers, lol. Just because they wear diapers doesn't mean they need to put that much extra in the waist. "

" I think part of the problem with the design is that they are meant for bigger kids....not all kids are (sorry to tick anyone off) chunky. The pants with the adjustable waists will last a long time though so they are worth the extra money. "
