My husband took my 4 year old to the emergency room last night because his ear was bleeding.

I left Q-tips out on the sink upstairs in the bathroom and when Adam went to use the washroom he started playing with them. Adam's 2 year old brother was also playing with them. Where was I, you ask? I was downstairs on my computer assuming they were in their bedroom playing or watching ninja turtles.

I feel horrible for this and I wasn't very sympathetic when he was crying and screaming because he cries and screams from the littlest things.

The doctor told my husband it was good we brought him in right away cause it would've gotten infected. some of the q-tip was still in his ear. he was lucky it didn't go past he first membrane, but that little membrane got torn and might hurt for a little, doc said.

Needless to say, my husband said Adam was very brave. He knows not to play with q-tips and that doctors have cool "cheerio lights".

I miss the time to myself that I used to have before kids...lesson learned tho

" I have one son, 3.5 yrs, it happens but you have to take better percautions. Have them play in an area that you can supervise but still away enough for you to have your space. Put the child-gate in the door of their room while you're in your room. That way they can't go out without your knowledge/assistance, and you're within the vicinity. We all get overwhelmed with parenthood but it was our actions that brought them into the world so we can't play the selfish game. Just alter your setup to accomidate you and your children. Best wishes and give the lil solider a hug for me. "

" I don't think you're a horrible mother! Parenting is hard and we all make mistakes. I wrestle with the Q-Tip factor, as I call it, all the time. My daughter has very waxy ears, but I don't use Q-tips unless she has some wax on the outside rim. My doctor said it can be worse to use them than to not. I go back and forth all the time! "

" accidents happen and lessons learned. I have a rule with my kid, 3. that is he can't go to a room if mommy isn't there. so if i'm on the computer..he has to stay within the same vicinity like watch tv or color with his crayons. "

" Ha....don't be so hard on yourself seriously! My 19 month old daughter swallowed a nickle two weeks ago....luckily it passed! Parents have done much worse things than forgetting a qtip or not seeing a nickle on the bathroom floor! He's never going to remember it....=-) "

" My husband always puts all the blame on me, as if I done it myself, when my daughter hurts herself or destroys something just because I can't keep my eye on her all the time. He always makes me feel guilty! He apologizes later, but I wish he wouldn't do it at all. My self esteem has really went down since I've became a mother. I used to feel stupid and slow all the time. Now, I'm feeling like that all over again because it seems like I can't stay one step ahead of my two year old. "

" Don't be too hard on yourself, none of us are perfect parents and it is impossible to watch our little ones 24/7 not even with the best will in the world. Over the weekend my little one fell off the bench in our back garden and cut his head open, I had gone to the toilet and it happened almost as soon as I was out of his sight. I also beat myself up about it but .... I needed to have a wee wee!! Thank god he was ok and now just has a lovely war wound of a bruise on the front of his head. Sending both you and your little one hugs. "
