my baby has two hernias (umbilical and inguinal). the umbilical hernia is slowly going away (she is 4 months) and the inguinal hernia has just appeared. i understand that a procedure is needed for the inguinal hernia and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of hernia? if you do can you please share your story. i'd really like to know what happened with your baby and how they were after the procedure. i've been told we have to wait about 3 months before the procedure is to be done.
thanks for sharing :)

" My brother, who is now 21, had 2 inguinal hernias. He had his surgery when he was 1 and did great. My mom said he wanted to do more than he was allowed afterwards and she actually had to hold him back from doing things, such as riding the hobby horse (they didn't want him straddling things). Her biggest recommendation was to make sure they thoroughly check the other side. Most of the time when they have it on one side, they also have it on the other. They didn't check my brother well enough and he ended up having to have 2 surgeries. "

" Thanks for your reply. I will definitely get them to check both sides as I read that it's all about the canal not closing fully after the testicles or ovaries (in our case ovaries) have descended and a bit of bowel is able to slip through. So it makes sense that if one side hasn't closed up enough then neither has the other side. I've heard of other people having to go to get the other side done when they were adults as well.
I wish they would do it now instead of waiting (the thing is the surgeon comes up from another city). She'll be up and away crawling etc by the time it's done, and like your brother she won't understand that she needs to rest!
Thanks again :) "
