Target Scare!

My son is almost six months old. Today we went shopping at Target, he was in his car seat and I placed him in the cart as normal. Half way through our shopping I hear a loud noise just as I saw my son (car seat and all) go crashing to the bottom of the cart!!! I must of scream loud enough for the whole store to hear! LUCKILY he was in his car seat and seems to be unharmed, scared of course he was crying quite a bit, but he seems to be okay.

A clerk in electronics called a manager and when she came she asked what happened. We told her what had happened and she said "Oh thanks for letting me know I'll take this cart off the floor" I was like that it??? Not even an apology?

I am so thankful my son was in a car seat that protected him in the fall. What if a toddler had been sitting in that seat when it gave way?

Needless to say I don't trust Target carts anymore and will not be using them for the purpose of holding my child anymore. I wanted to share this experience so that others were aware this is something that could happen again.

I called my sons on call ped and he reasured me that the car seat should have protected him and that he should be fine. I am just to keep an eye on him.

.. now if only I can get my heart to beat at a normal rate again.

" Was he in the seat part of the cart? I never trusted those things and always placed the seat in the basket part. Much safer in my opinion.....unacceptable that you didn't get an apology though...I'd write to the corporate office about it. "

" Yes he was in the seat part. I guess I never thought about it breaking! Like I said can you imagine if a child had been sitting in there (NOT in a carseat), I can't even imagine. I won't be using the seat part (at any store) in the future. I just might look up their website and send out an e-mail about the whole experience. "

" First of all I am really sorry your son had an accident but glad he's okay.

Maybe I'm not understanding what happend...did the seat break or was the carseat not hooked in securely. I know that the cars at Target doesn't hold the carseat securely so I never put the baby in the front, I always put her in the back. "

" No this was a new target they have the new carts that are all plastic your car seat doesn't 'hook' on it anymore the back of the seat gives when you place the seat in so that it kind of 'hugs' the car seat. The car seat didn't fall off the seat the WHOLE back side of the cart gave way! You know how when you push a cart into another the back gets pushed up so that they can 'connect' the two carts? This is the part of the cart that broke/malfunctioned. The back swung out the opposite way!! Esentially dumping the car seat out into the back of the cart!! "

" Oh man, that is scary!!

I was leaving a market with a friend of mine, she has a 6 month old little girl, and the shopping cart wheels jerked suddenly to the right and actually came off the curb (we were going down the sidewalk) and the carseat FLIPPED OFF of the cart, rolled a couple of times and landed upside down on asphalt!!!! I almost had a heart attack!! She was fine because she was strapped in and the car seat protected her, but it scared the crap out of both of us. I hate those stupid carts!!

I usually just put Elijah inn a Bjorn and carry him or put him in the basket of the cart in his carseat. "
