Hi everyone! im due on saturday and have an appointment this friday with my consultant who is offering to do a membrane sweep, if i do get it done at all it will be next week sometime. i was wondering if anyone has had one, whats it like, did it work and so on?? my sister in law had one and she said she would prefer that to being induced any day and she went into normal labour two hours after having it done, she also said it was uncomfortable, not painful but ive red it can be quite painful.

" At my 39 week appointment I had one.I was already 3cm dialated and effaced. It was very uncomfortable and I had to take deep breathes to get through it. I had cramping for about an hour or so after and a little pink discharge. That was a wednesday, I had irregular pain off and on and finally went to the hospital on Saturday. I was 6 cm so they kept me and broke my water. I'd say go for it, but don't have high expectations for labour to start suddenly, because it may not. Good luck to you! "

" I've been offered this for in 2 weeks time because of my panick, to make me feel more in control. But I think I'm gonna opt out because I'm scared of the pain! I had an internal at the hospital once and that hurt s bad, think a lot of it depends on who does it, some are more gentle than others (another internal I had wasn't so bad). I think if you're not dilated or effaced maybe just leave it, it will happen when it's ready, maybe your little girl just needs a bit more time cooking :p She will be here soon though remember they won't let you go past 2 weeks :) "
