A book to help build a child's self-esteem:

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1 Howard demonstrates that simplicity is indeed elegant. Not that the dog named Cosmo is especially elegant quite the opposite but his story is told so straightforwardly, and with such expressive illustrations, that the book completely satisfies. There is nothing special about Cosmo, especially compared to the other dogs that have wonderful and arcane skills such as howling, catching Frisbees, or "drool[ing] eleven hours in a row without stopping." Quite by accident, and to his great surprise, this engaging protagonist discovers that he can skateboard! And so his problem is solved. The watercolor-and-marker illustrations convey action and emotion and have great child appeal. The rhythm of the storytelling and size of the pictures make this appropriate for storytime. Countless books address the issue of building self-esteem by conquering new skills, but few as joyfully as when Cosmo Zooms. Pat Leach, Lincoln City Libraries, NE
