just make sure he is peeing, keep putting those ice chips in his mouth, that is great, he will get through it.

I would just give him what he can handle. He will not get severely dehydrated before he can starts drinking again. Just give him what he can take. he is gonna take in what his body needs. If he's eating food there is water content in that also. Good luck and i hope your child feels better soon.

I know this is going to make me sound very strange, but about once a year, my 4 year old son will get real sick. I am the biggest worrier over him and his brother, age 3. If they refuse liquids, I have gone as far as buying a cheap water gun and making a game out of it where we would have to try and squirt each other in the mouth. We both end up soaked, but it does two things, makes him laugh and forget the sickness for awhile, plus eases my mind that I have managed to get some fluids in him. God bless and I will be praying for your little one.

i love the responses, thank you.
things got a little out of hand (in the sense that his fighting it was making him SICK...we really were on the way back to the doctor or hospital), and we asked him if he wanted to go back to the doctor, to which he said no...then we explained that the medicine and fluids will help the owies go away, and will make it so we don't have to go back. we were desperate. THEN i headed to Target and got two of his favorite slushies. i'm not much into bribery? but here's what else...got him a game for his psp and his wii...if he drank all his fluids and took his medicine he got the first game...and he did. now, if he finishes the whole course, and drinks lots...he gets the other (at the end of ten days). bottom line is, after taking his medicine and drinking his stuff...he feels so much better and is understanding it today. YEAH!

Hi, our little guy had his tonsils and adenoids scraped when he was 22 months (too little to have them fully removed). He had severe apnea.
What we had to do for him (after getting advice from a pediatric oncology nurse) was to make his beverage as cold as possible. Add chocolate. All kids seem to like cold and chocolate. This is if he can tolerate the chocolate though. Now we do this every time we need to give him medicine as well. I make him a little kiddie chocolate shake. He also regressed back onto bottles at that time (his little brothers bottles). He thought it was fun to be treated that way I guess. Good luck to you. Keeping it fun is a great idea.
