Back vs Tummy

I know that you are supposed to but your infant to sleep on their backs. I swore that my baby would never sleep in bed with me, but that's the only hope of sleep I have. During the day we can hardly put him down without him waking up. Today I laid him on his belly in hopes that I could go to the bathroom and eat before picking him up again. He will sleep on his tummy on his own but I wont let him do it at night. I have let him during the day only when I am right by him and can watch him constantly to make sure he's ok. I do have blankets that have been in our bed with us in his bassinett hoping the smell would help him be comfortable but not so far. Any suggestions?

" I USE SOMETHING CALLED THE FIRST YEAR SLEEPER. IT KEEPS YOUR BABY IN THE POSITION YOU LAY IT DOWN IN. I WAS TOLD AT THE HOSPITAL TO HAVE MY DAUGHTER LAY ON HER SIDE WHICH SHE STILL DOES AT NIGHT BUT SLEES ON HER STOMACH DURING THE DAY WHEN WE CAN WATCH HER. "

" I agree.. prop the crib mattress up, and perhaps try the car seat. Try to swaddle him as well.. if he doesn't like his hands/arms swaddled, leave them out.. just wrap it tightly (not too tight of course) around his tummy. Your LO sounds like mine! Between him being gassy and his reflux these seem like the only way he and I can sleep! Both my older DSs were tummy sleepers but I have gotten more afraid at my old age.. lol. "
