Crib or momy/daddy's Bed?

When my son first came home from the hosptial, he slept in his bassinet, untill he was about 6 weeks. Then he would not sleep more than 1 hour unless he slept with me in my bed. He is now 12 weeks old. I want him to sleep in his crib. Everytime I try, he wakes up about 5 min after I lay him down! I do not want my son to be sleeping in my bed forever! I was wondering if any of you maybe had some tips that I can use to help him get used to the crib at night. He does take naps in his crib during the day, so I guess that is a start!

" I had the bassinet next to my bed until about 4 months. I would let her cry, and sometimes just put a hand on her belly and stroke her head.

She got used to me comforting her without picking her up and eventually didn't wake up as much. "

" Do you swaddle him? I actually started out putting my baby in her crib (her room is really close to mine), so I haven't really had that problem, but I know Sarah sleeps much better when she is swaddled. Before, she would go to sleep, but then I think she would startle herself awake. "

" I heard some really good advice on this: start them off in the crib or bassinet and hold off on taking them out until their first feeding and then move them to the family bed. As the first feeding gets later and later, they stay in bed longer and longer. This way they slowly learn to self soothe. "

" I MOVED MY DAUGHTERS CRIB INTO OUR ROOM AND IT IS EASY TO PUT HER DOWN ONCE SHE FALL ASLEEP. I LET HER FALL ASLEEP ON ME AND THEN MOVE HER RIGHT TO HER BED. GOOD LUCK "

" My little girl started in her bed beside ours and slept there fine for the first 2-3 weeks now she is 8 weeks old and somenights she sleeps in her bed and some nights in mine. I have tired putting her there first and it works very well. Be patient though this may take a while! "

" Start with naps. If they are naping in the crib then it will become a more familiar place for them. Then start then out in the crib for the fist part of the night, and when they wake to feed put them back with you. "
