Sleep Positions

My son will be two weeks old tomorrow. The only way he will sleep if we put him down is on his tummy. I know that infants are not supposed to sleep on their tummies. I have let him today while I'm sitting right beside him just so I can get some things done, but I won't do it if I can't be watching him the whole time...so night time is out of the question. I love holding him and if I had nothing else to do all day then so be it, but I could use some suggestions on what to do. I have used the blanket we use in his bed so it smells the same, but that hasn't helped. I also have a t-shirt of mine that I put on my pillow as a pillow case that I was going to put in his bed to see if that would help at all. I've swaddled him and tried patting/rubbing him when I lay him down or keeping my hand on his tummy for a bit, but he doesn't stay asleep more than 10 minutes. Aside from just let him cry, what other solutions do you have?

P.S. he doesn't like the swing or the carseat/car

" My son slept in my arms in the Lazy Boy until he was about 8 weeks old - it was the longest 8 weeks of my life! He now sleeps on his back in his bed all night long (except when he rolls over - he's over 4 months now). Have you tried white noise - a fan or something? Nothing worked for Ben, but he did outgrow it. "

" Recliner, couch, sleeping in your arms in bed...find a position that works, but don't put him to bed on his tummy until he is a few months older.

The girls liked the position we could get them in when we held them in the recliner and it wasn't uncomfortable for us because our arms were supported and our legs were elevated with the footrest. Soon he'll be sleeping through the night, but right now he's still trying to get used to his body so if he needs to be held to sleep that's what you need to do.

HTH and the time will pass by before you know it. "

" My son is the same way. I put him on his side now, and it works great! I put a blanket around him and keep a little bunch in front of him so if he dose try to turn over, he cant very well. "

" My little one used to do the same thing. I would let her fall asleep on her tummy, and roll her over very slowly to her back. After a few tries she stayed sleeping good luck! "

" what about getting a baby carrier for your chest or a baby sling. Just the movement and closeness to you might do the trick. That way you are still hands free. I never had this problem with my son, but my daughter wants to be cuddled all the time. This has helped me lots. Good luck. "

" my daughter only wanted to sleep on her tummy when she was a baby, after a few weeks of trying to get her to to sleep on her back, i just let her sleep on her tummy and would roll her over when she was well and truly asleep, now she sleeps on her back or side (but she's 6 months now); i also have a baby cousin 4 days apart from my little girl who has NEVER slept on his back, he's always on his tummy and didn't have great neck control till he was older, but he slept on his tummy all the time, his mum couldn't do anything else. I'd be inclined, and this is just me, but to let him fall asleep on his tummy and then very gently roll him over onto his back for the rest of the night/his nap. worked a charm for us. "
