I found out yesterday that my doctor wants to induce me on Monday because of the size of my baby. She wants to make sure that I can have her Vaginally saftly. My question is what all do I need to know about being induced. She said she would go over it all when I go in on Friday for another monitoring but I am just scared, worried and dont know what to expect. This is my first child and on Monday I will be 39 weeks and 1 day. I am sure that they baby is fine but I just dont know. Please any advice will be helpful in calming me about what is going to happen!!

I was also induced at 39w1d. My baby's fluid was getting on the low side of normal (thats what my doc called it) and was already 50% and 2cm a week before being induced. What happened was I went in the hospital on Monday night at 3pm and they started giving me a half of a pill every 4 hours to thin my cervix. I was having contractions but nothing really strong. My doc came in at 8am Tuesday and I was 4cm and 100% thinned and broke my water. The fluid was clear and about 30 mins after that is when contractions started. I got some pain meds before I got an epidural and then finally I had to get an epidural at 10:30am. After the epidural I couldn't feel a thing. I had lower back labor. I think that is the worst you could have. So I got the epidural, that was alittle hard to do, since I needed to relax and stay bend over so he could do what he had to..while having contractions. But all was better afterwards. About 11:30am I felt something wierd down there and called the nurse..she checked me and said we were ready to have a baby. She called my doctor and I had a beautiful baby girl at 11:48am 20inches and 6lbs 4ozs. It wasn't at all what I expected. Nothing like you see on TV. But be prepared to have moments of pause while pushing, since you have to wait on contractions. It was alittle odd to me to have my legs up in the air and everything and my doc and nurses just chatting away..while we're waiting on contractions. It was hard to know if I was pushing right since I couldn't feel anything but just listen to your doctor and nurses they will let you know when you are doing it right. Then finally after I got feeling back in my legs I was able to pee, get my IV out and move to a more comfortable room. Oh I had to have a cather too. But she put it in when I had the epidural so I didn't feel it and took it out right before the doc got there. I didn't have to have stiches either. Best of luck!!!

I was induced with my son Logan, and he is now 14 weeks old. I can say that an epidural is what you want if you are being induced because it is more painful. Being induced can last longer too, thats why it is nice to have pain management because your labor can be 24 hours or more! Luckily I only had a 18 hour labor...Good luck and dont worry....once that baby is in your arms, life seems soooooo good!!! :0)

They will take good care of you. I was induced and I still didn't progess the first day so the took me off the patocin and let me sleep through the night and put me back on it the next day. I was in labor for two days. Don't be afraid of the epidural, it was a God sent. My epidural stopped working about the last two hours of labor. That sucked however pushing was good it felt good to releave the pressure. Pushing went quick for me. Good luck. You will be fine.

Hi. I was induced on May 1, and gave birth on May 2nd. First, I would like to tell you that getting induced is not really bad. Of course everyone hopes to go into labor naturally, but being induced is the next best thing.
I was given a drug vaginally to start contractions. But, in my case the drug was causing the baby to have some stress..this is not usually the case. The medication was removed after about an hour a half and the contractions continued on their own. I would advise you to speak with your doctor about getting an epidural...if you are thinking of pain management. I received one when I was 5 cm...I had my baby about 15 hours later. Good luck, and don't worry too much about this. YOu are doing the right thing by following the doctors advise. Before you know it your baby will be here!!
