I was induced because my water broke but I wasn't going into labor. They gave me a small amount of the drug for something like 10 hours, and when I wasn't making progress they increased the dose and then I went into real labor.
I didn't have any bad reactions to the drug, and for me it took a while to get going. I just needed to pee a lot because they were putting so many IVs in me! I didn't use an epidural so of course the 2nd-3rd phases of labor were hard, but the first phase of just waiting for the drugs to kick in was not that bad, in my experience. Try not to worry so much about the what-ifs...and good luck with your labor!! I always try to think to myself, "if everyone else can do it, so can I," because I'm a big pain wimp.

Really you are so close to being due how much weight do they think your baby is going to gain in that amount of time? I would be concerned about an induction with pitocin before I "was due" especially if your cervix has not shown any ripening or dialating. Are they going to due the cervidal first, usually the night before? (btw Cytotec is not approved for the use of pregnant women and IMO I would not allow it) I am also anti-labor intervention so an induction for a solid medical reason so maybe my opinion isnt what people want to here.
As for your up coming labor (YAY congrats!!, I love being in labor!) just relax and remember your body was designed to do this. Forget about all the is baby ok stress and enjoy the process of birthing your baby into the world! It is truly a life-changing experience. Do you have a doula/labor assistant? An induced labor can often times be intence, I would feel more comfortable with the extra support.
Good luck!

all being induced is being given a chemical that tells the body, oh I have to go into labor and speed up contractions. Really, there is not much to worry about at all. It is very common and your doctor's reasoning is legit for choosing that path. My wife was going to be induced but went into labor early so there was no need. She is an obgyn and I had questions galore about in case:)

You could go into labor before Monday. My dr. saw me on a Mon. and wanted to induce me on Wed. I had my baby on Tues! I'll cross my fingers for you! I was induced w/ my first baby, though. Having a baby hurts no matter if you are induced or not - you will do great!

i had my first by indiction, then vaginal delivery at 36 weeks...she was just fine.
i had my twins the same, and they were fine as well.
relax, and take a breath. childbirth is a wonderful, natural, and emotional thing. don't rule out the posibility of a csection, or an epidural (i had them with both and HIGHLY recommend them).
make sure to ask your doctor to tell you exactly when is going on before the process starts. and ask questions if you want! it's your body and child.
but this weekend, rest and enjoy your last few baby free days...and sleep!

Hey hun. How big are they thinking your baby is? If you are comfortable with the whole induction thing then that's great. But from what I've heard, they can be off a couple POUNDS on their estimate of the baby weight this late in the pregnancy. On top of that, my "little" guy was 9lb 5oz and after having him I honestly believe your body will develope to handle whatever size your baby is (unless it's like 15lbs or something of course). I only had one stitch from a very small tear. An induced labor is said to be more intense, but also faster. You know how much I wanted my baby to be born in the last weeks of my pregnancy, but I am really happy that labor came on it's own. Since you are already dialated I'm sure there will be no problems with the induction being successful but be prepared for anything. By whatever means I hope your little girl is here soon and that you have a wonderful labor/delivery experience. It's the best thing I have ever done in my whole life. I didn't understand before, but a friend of mine told me she would give birth everyday if she could and now I TOTALLY agree with her. Enjoy every step of it as much as possible and from my personal opinion, try the mirror...it is amazing to watch your little one be born...the most amazing thing. Anyway, I'm gettin all teary over it now so I'm gonna go, but do some research online, etc and write down questions to take with you to your doctor. Also there are videos you can get at the library...I got "Laugh and Learn your way through childbirth" and I loved it. It's long though so you might want to look into it asap and they have a section on induction, c-sections, pain relief and everything else. Best of luck...let us know how it goes.

I was induced with my last 2 daughters. Having labored with DD1, I have to say that it was nice to be induced because I knew when I would have the baby. The only thing is that the labor itself was more painful. All they do is hook you up to an IV and start the pitocin, and let it do its thing!! Some women have a cervical ripening something-or-other inserted in the vagina, but I don't know what that is since my OB didn't do that to me.
Don't worry about anything, take things in stride and you will soon be meeting your little one.

cervadel takes up to 3 days to do anything. it took me just over a day. da n a half to get to three cm on it. i wish they had just broke my water than use the pitocin and seen if it would go on its own when they induced me. cus the pitocin was hard to deal with tho i managed to get in a zone between contractions. i had her in about 2 hours after they gave me pitocin (due to Preeclampsia)

i was induced with both of mine. had the diabeties, n pre-clampsia with both. son at 34weeks n daughter at 37weeks. all was fine. had no problems. it can make the contractions sumwhat more intence, but no health risks as far as i know. it took a long while 4 my son to come out but that was due to the bloodpressure meds i have to take kept makin the induction meds not effective. as for my daughter i didnt have to have the meds for the bloodpressure. so i was induced about 11am, had an epidural about 1:30pm, n had a beautiful daughter by 8pm. it was super easy. good luck n congrats on the best gift God can ever give u.
