Hi, I am new to this group. I delivered a baby girl on May 2nd...I was 35 weeks pregnant. She is doing well and will probably be home today or tomorrow.

Has anyone else delivered early? Any advice for a mom who hasn't taken care of a new born in 10 1/2 years?

Thanks!

" my first was 5.5 weeks early of the original due date, but his "cottage cheese" said he was only 3 weeks early. My girl was almost 2 weeks early.

My first 2 are 9 years apart.

The thing I learned was to make sure I took care of myself and got sleep... and burp the baby often.

Make sure the phone and TV remote and a book are nearby at feeding times.

Just listen to your baby.. learn the communication signs as early as you can.

Don't worry about being quiet at naptime.. they need the noise to remind them of the womb.

and... trust your instincts. "

" congrats! it comes natural to you! no worries, just have patience and feel free to call the pedi if you are nervous. Sleep when the baby sleeps, and enlist the help of anyone who offers!! congrats again, and remember we are always here for you! "

" Thank you ladies! I will be sure to take your advise.

The baby has not come home yet. She lost one ounce and the doctor wants her to gain it back before she leaves...so she promised to discharge her no later than Tuesday morning.

She is not home yet, but I haven't managed to get any rest...I'm busy trying to spend time with my older daughter, cleaning up, setting up for the baby and visiting her atleast three times a day for atleast 3 hours at a time to feed, change and hold her.

My husband and I usually don't get to sleep until way after midnight and then I'm up again by 6:30 am...I am really hoping to get some rest at some point...everyone keeps telling me to get some rest, but there just never seems to be enough hours in the day.

I really do think I'll be able to rest once she is home with us! "

" i know exactly how u feel, my son was born this year in january at 35 weeks as well.
it was so tiring going back and forth to the hospital to see him and try to breast feed. he was there for 2 weeks, and even tho u still wont get a lot of rest once she is home at least while she is napping u can too. u'll need as much rest as u can get
once my son got to around 3 months, things just seemed soooo much easier. not as much crying, better sleeping patterns, just so much more fun and enjoyable, specially the smiles and laughing
good luck ;-) "
