Acromegaly Support Group

I wasn't too frightened by this condition until I heard the word tumor come out of my doctor's mouth. I suppose it's because I associate the word tumor with devestaing things. I never heard of acromegaly so I didn't think much of it. I tell people I have an enlarged pituitary gland. I don't want to use the term tumor with them even though that's what it is.

I think I was so happy that they found that my symptons were something and not me making them up that the word tumour didnt bother me.I found that when I got home and looked up Acromegaly on the internet and saw what it meant I took such a dislike to the name.JJx

I just call it acro partly because since Spanish is my first language I don’t seem to be able to pronounce it correctly I sort’ve do a spanglish thing..using both phonetic systems. So yes the name does kind of bug me….:) mct rjt

I actually don't have a problem with the word acromegaly, I think because people don't have any idea what it is usually so have no preconceptions. I do however have a problem with giantism! When I applied for my travel insurance that's what it came up with and I hate that, it makes us sound like storybook characters!!
