Hurt wrist, hand, and thumb

It has been eight weeks since I fell in the shower and my wrist, hand, and thumb are still sore. I fell on an outstretched hand. I got soap in my eyes and as I tried to turn around I slipped while I had both hands on the wall. My right one in back of me and my left on the side of me and as I fell, both hands went all the way down until I reached the tub surround. The pain immediately begun and it was awful. Do you think it might be more than just a sprain? The pain is also in the Scaphoid area.

I got it checked out and they diagnosed me as a sprained wrist and hand. But it is still sore, swollen, and bruised, so I got a referral to Orthopedics. It is swollen on the palm side of my hand where the thumb is and near the wrist and there is a bump also on one of my thumb bones

This was because when I got surgery on my ankle in April, a few weeks later, I tried to take a shower and not put alot of weight on my ankle and that is how I fell. As I turned around I slipped.

" yes, you probably have more than a sprain. Sprains usually go away in about a week. From everything I have read regarding wrist injuries, (after my son's accident)these injuries are not always diagnosed as quickly as other injuries. You do need to see an ortho doc, and, make sure that they specialize in hands. They have additional training, not only in surgical techniques, but in other conservative treatment to get you better. An ortho md treated my son at the time of accident, in June, but when he stopped making progress, we took him to a hand specialist, who referred him to a certified hand occupational therapist. he has almost full function in his hand, and very little pain. his injury was severe... his hand from the wrist area was almost amputated from the impact of the car accident "

" Also, if you are worried about putting too much pressure on your ankle, you may want to get a shower chair. You can usually find them at home depote and they aren't very expensive. My son had to use one for awhile after he came home, because he couldn't put weight on his leg "

" Sounds like maybe you broke the bone right behind your thumb. I broke that bone and it was very sore. Still is sometimes and I broke it 2 years ago. I can't remember the name of the bone, but it is between your thumb and wrist. I would definitely see and Ortho Dr. and let them know it has been 8 weeks and it still hurts you. Good luck . "

" I posted on this site months ago to get some advice on my injury and I want to update you on this injury. It all started back in May when I fell in the shower on the outstretched hand and injured my wrist, hand, and thumb and since then, it is still sore. It has been four months and it is still swollen and sore. It also still hurts in the scaphoid area. I got referred to a hand specialist and hopefully he can find out what is wrong. The x-ray showed a possible hairline fracture when I went to the doctors a couple months ago, so the Orthopedist can verify that. What I don't understand is why it is still sore and not healing?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Cassie "

" I fell and broke 4 ribs. At hospital the x-rays showed the broken bones. I had to go to PCP that week for follow up where they took more x-rays. THose were not clear enough to show the breaks. Luckily, I had the ER x-rays to prove the breaks. I don't know why the docs office x-rays did not show the same as the hospital ones but the ribs were definitely broken. Ribs heal without any real special treatment. But for you there may be something similar.

Hope you find an answer that helps. "
