Phobia of cars

I dont know if its common that alot of people who have expirenced a car accident has had phobia of riding in cars or just cars in general. I have been in 4 car accidents in my life time. I refuse to sit up front and I will have a panic attack every time a car goes by me when I am walking because I am worried its going to hit me. When we are driveing down a road and a intersection comes up. Even if the car coming down the other road has a stop sign I ll still get tense worring that that person is not going to stop. When we are driving down a road I get all worried that one of the cars comeing from the other way will cross the center line and ht us head on. I just have ths unbelieveable phobia of cars. I cant even drive without haveing a panic attack. Can any one relate?

I have only been in one accident where i was walking and was hit. Ihave the exact same problem i also see ppl walking who i think we are going to hit when no one is really there..... one time I got out of the car to go into the gas station and i saw head lights coming at me i jumped and through myself to the ground come to find out there wasn't a car around at all I felt like a loser....... all this has prevented me from getting my licence so i am stuck in the house alone all the time which is causing more depression ......... just remember you're never alone

I was in one severe accident 11 months ago. I am not physically yet ready to drive, and emotionally not even close. It took me a long time to be able to feel okay to even be a passanger, and it was only with my fiance. i then had to bite the bullet and take cabs. it was incredibly hard for me to get into a vechical with someone that i dont know, or trust. and i had to ask many of them to stop driving like a maniac (in kinder words). Many people around me are now asking me when I am going to start driving again, and the just the thought alone right now is making my heart drop into my stomach. My accident happend 2 minutes away from my home, so i dont even really feel safe enough to say to myself "i could just drive around the corner". So, i understand what you are going through right now. and can relate. Just take it one step at a time and dont get ahead of yourself. no one expects (or should) you to jump behind the wheel and not experience anxiety, with what you have had to overcome.

I too am very nervous about being in a car. I am currently driving, but am always thinking about what might happen. My accident happened at dusk and so the dark brings it's own fears. I was told by a Dr. that I needed to force myself to leave the house and drive otherwise I would become worse and would eventually not want to leave my house at all, I force myself to drive, but am very cautious and i am most certainly not a very good passenger.
