Purity in a sex-saturated world

What steps do you take to remain pure?
For me, I abstain from watching shows and tv shows with sexual content. If something comes on tv is sex-related (ie:extramartial affairs, casual sex, adultery, etc.) I turn the tv off or change the channel. I read what the bible says about sexual immorality and why we should remain pure. We are God's temples. Set boundaries in dating relationships from the get go. Posted on 02/21/08, 02:02 pm |

i agree with you as far as premarital sex is concerned and sexual purity. i think that we should all stick together and encourage one another daily. it is a fight all the time, that's for sure in this society. Even if you want to remain totally pure, it can be really hard.

I feel that for me, I can watch anything sex related with out being convinced that I must live my life like that. For example, if I watch "Sex in the City" or Anna Nicole porn lol (I didn't know she did one!), I am not going to run to a club and start banging guys left and right. I was speaking to my friend today and she was telling me about her druken night of sex with a guy she didn't know well. I just laughed and went along with what she said because I am strong in my personal beliefs of my lifestyle. It is very hard to remain pure but I feel that in the end you cannot let outside infliuences try to change your lifestyle. I think we should encourage eachother here because most people are discouraging so I don't talk about it to them :)

I was just speaking to a close friend about this TODAY Shanna and others, about how this society is so sex-saturated that we must FIGHT to keep our minds and bodies PURE. I thank you Shanna for posting such an unpopular stance; it is easy to proclaim "I am abstinent" but another thing to proclaim "I set boundaries from the onset of my dating relationships". I have been on both sides of the fence; I say I am abstinent but then I compromise that position by doing things I KNOW may lead to full out sex. So now I am purifying my mind as well; I am very selective about music, tv, movies anything that would have me get a little "excited" or place my mind on sexual things too long. It ALL starts in the mind so I encourage all of us to be selective as to what we allow into our minds and spirits because from their spurs our actions. I am a 35 year old virgin; so YES I am living proof that although it is hard, Shanna, it can be done, you CAN wait. You are worth it...because GOD says you are. Love you all in Christ. Stay strong, Stay encouraged...Peace.

I basically make my position known to those I feel are mature enough to respond well towards it, and refrain from jokes about casual sex because to me, it is a very serious deal. I don't necessarily avoid sexual content in movies or shows, but I prefer those that have more of a message than just graphic sex. I don't give in to the media's portrayel of women my age and I stay true to what I believe in. :-)

i guess we all have our own ways of dealing with it. i can joke about sex, but i have to hide my eyes whenever i see sex on tv/movies...or even if we're just discussing it in a science class! my friends think its so funny!
i like my sex life to be a secret. NO ONE KNOWS, and i feel it makes me interesting/mysterious. at least i hope it does...lol. whenever i learn "something" about some one, whether it be that they're a virgin or a whore, it takes away a little magic about them. i get confused about the media's portrayal of women. i don't like sexual attention, and thats what the "attractive" women get, so I'm never sure how to act, so.... i do whatever i want. it works out pretty well, lol

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the council of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers." Psalm 1:1
That says to me that there are three degrees that we can find ourselves in. We can walk, stand or sit in the sexuality of the world. The more we walk near it, the more we will be tempted to stop and stand. The more we stand in it, the more we will be tempted to sit in it. When I find myself watching something on TV that is sexual in nature, I'll ask myself if I'm walking with it (I feel its an unfortunate inclusion in something worth watching), standing with it (enjoying it a little too much) or sitting with it (it tempts me to desire to have for myself what I see on the screen). Then I react accordingly whether I keep watching, fast forward though the objectionable material or turn it off altogether.

Mt 5:27-28 suggests that even sexual thoughts are a defilement of the temple.
