tomorrow i will be attending the SfN (society for neuroscience). one of the sessions ill be looking at deals with the effect stimulants have on development.... i will try to absorb and regurgitate as much info on this as possible!!!

I learned a few things about methylphenidate while at the SfN... there was a lot to absorb at the conference (and a lot to regurgitate) so I will make this short: one particular poster came to my attention because it showed that rats under the influence of methylphenidate performed better at some memory/learning tasks than the control group (rats that didn't have methyl) but they performed worse in others, especially those involving complex thinking. One possible reason for this is stimulant-induced anxiety.
I had an important talk on the way home with a friend of mine about health care in the US and people being over-medicated. we came to the conclusion that meds don't treat problems- they treat symptoms.... it is important that you get to the root of the problem... I will be at this conference until Wednesday... if anyone has any psychology/neuroscience-related questions involving ADD/ADHD, or any other disorder, let me know and I will try to get info!!
