I need ADHD information/ advice for parents!

I was wondering if anyone knows any good websites or advice for telling parents about ADHD?

I was only diagnosed about a year ago but I have had it all my life, it explains so much of my behaviour and who I am!

I tried telling my parents about it when Im with them, but they dont think its real, and dont understand me when I say i'm really hyper or really down.
Alot of the time my hyperness gets the better of me and I need to run around and laugh, but my parents just dont understnad.,

This is one of the reaosns I no longer live at home, but with friends that love me being hyper and being myself. I find it really hard exapling to them what I go through , so wanted to show them a good webiste or something that hopefully they will take the time to read and hopefully understand.

Thanks

Gill

" flyleaf gave you a great site.

Here are two more:

Finally, this is one of the best books around dealing with the subject. It is helpful both for those who have ADD/ADHD and for those who would like to learn about it.

" Here's the unfortunate reality to which most on this forum can attest: No one, but us, believes it's real. A brief foray into history will reveal that we are not alone. The following are recognized medical conditions but were all myths and testaments to laziness or other human failings in their day:

alcoholism
erectile dysfunction
drug addiction
schizophrenia
Alzheimer's disease

The list goes on. So, find support from those who will support you. Save your energy for them. For no amount of explaining, cajoling, pleading, begging, or reasoning will change anyone's mind.

I read a quote once: "People will adamantly support any hearsay that aligns with their belief and just as adamantly oppose any facts that contest it." We want our loved ones to understand and support us. Sometimes, they just can't.

Good luck to you. Check out CHADD at www.chadd.org and read Driven to Distraction. "
