I've chewed my nails all my life, and I used to frequently have a strand of hair in my mouth from early childhood through high
school. I still chew the skin beside the tips of my nails, but for some reason, I don't really chew them much anymore, unless one breaks and needs to be evened off and there are no other implements around. I attribute the decrease in nail chewing to my current meds. I only cut back a couple of years ago, so it must have happened around the time I started this drug regimen. (It might also have to do with getting tired of often having infected fingertips, and also having gotten a serious cellulitis infection a couple of years ago, that caused me to be in agony for two weeks.)
Oh, even though I don't put my hair into my mouth, I do twist it a lot. It is straight and reaches below my waist. I haven't had a serious hair cut since 1966. With all that hair, it is difficult not to be twisting it in my fingers.
