Discussion:
ADD/ADHD and Bipolar?

I was wondering if there are many here with ADD/ADHD and Bipolar?

If so which was diagnosed first?

Has treatment for the ADD/ADHD improved or worsened your bipolar or not affected it at all?

Do you take a stimulant or stay away from them?

I'm wondering because I heard somewhere that many have both illnesses.

" Yep... I have both. My Bipolar is considered to be pretty mild, though. (I would just cry a lot before medication)

I was diagnosed with the ADD first. "

" Oops... I wasn't finished when I hit the button.

I take medication for both and have no problems doing so. (Cymbalta, Geodon and Dextroamphetomine) "

" My son (7) was diagnosed with bipolar first. He has since been diagnosed also with ADHD. He's taking Depakote & Geodon for the bipolar and Vyvanse for the ADHD. So far, he is manageable, but just barely. Every med he's taken for ADHD prior to the Vyvanse has made him manic and VERY violent (more than usual, anyway). The vyvanse doesn't seem to be helping the ADHD much, but at least it isn't making the bipolar worse... "

" i'm both, i really can't remember what was dx first. probably the depression, then the ADD, then the bipolar, then the ocd, or maybe it was the anxiety or panic attacks. it seems like i have been dx with everything under the sun. right now i'm not on anything due to my finacial state, andno insurence. i was on ritalin for a few months while i could afford it, but i have found nothing to keep me balanced. good luck daisy "

i have other diagnoses, but as far as the adhd, i don't take any thing for it, i'm can barely afford the meds i take now. sounds strange, but I think my bp meds also help my other diagnoses. i'm very interested in a natural supplements since right now i'm with out insurance. if anyone knows of anything good i'd be interested in hearing about it.
