My name is Christie and I am 24 years old with three kids under 5. My oldest Destin who is 5 has been diagnosed with ADHD and since has been perscribed 10 mg of Adderall. His teachers think it has been a wonder pill and say they can't and wont handle him without his medication. I feel pressured by his teachers to keep him on it. He has been showing violent behavior when coming off of the meds witch just happens to be when he comes home. He has treatend to kill people, burn down our neibors house etc. But his therapist says their is nothing wrong with him. His father was murdered a year and a half ago and I think he has alot of anger about that but NOBODY IS LISTINING TO ME! I can't take much more of this... I would rather my son be hyper and bouning off the walls than to see him like this. I have offerd to sit in his class when he is off the meds and help with him but my offers are always shot down. I have been advised by his threapist to keep him on the meds till the school year is over because he has made alot of progress. I can only wonder if the teachers give him higher marks when he is more obediant beacause it doesn't seem to me that he has improved academicly on the medication. Not to mention that he has gone from 55 to 44 pounds! What should I do?

OMG hon!! Has he seen anyone to talk to? Sounds like this could help him out alot...my son had anger issues when he was younger and he went to someone to talk to and it helped him quite a bit...call your dr maybe and have a discussion with him/her about all of this...take care and hoping things get a bit easier for you...

My son is also on adderall and it has made a big difference but if you feel uncomfortable then you should be able to take him off of it and seek another mode of treatment. Also the school should not be able to prevent him coming w/o it.Although I know they routinely do.I worked at a daycare/preschool and they often told parents this about unruley kids.I would look into behavior modification and counseling that will help alot.**HUGS** I hope things get better for you guys.:)

make sure that you supplement the meds with therapy with a professional who specializes in ADHD. Combined, the changes of success increase to 80 percent! There is an emotional and coping component to ADHD that makes life more challenging, and pills can't teach those skills. Also, the pills do work, thank goodness, but they aren't good listeners. Hang in there.
