I am a member on a few other boards and on one a person I keep up w/ was talking about some trouble she was having with her young daughter and meds and the system in general. So most everyone was very positive and concerned and then like always there is the one person ,who has no kids who thinks kids cannot be mentally ill and it is terrible that we medicate our kids. She even said that the person should"get a priest or maybe it was the childs spirit guide talking or God even." and "how in the heck can you diagnose such a young child w/ a mental illness". Where does she think mentally ill adults come from? I know she means well probably but it is ignorance like this that sets us back .As parents of a mentally ill child we already feel guilt and persecution and anxiety and fear.We do not need someone who has no kids and does not know what they are talking about making remarks like that and making it worse. It is not normal for my child to have suicidal ideations at age 10 or be so anxious that he thinks that if he does not count to a certain number someone will die or if he does not get out of bed the right way our house will catch on fire and if a pill makes him not have those thoughts then I am all for it. Sorry I just thought it was very insensitive and it made me very angry as I am finding this attitude more and more as we make this journey with our son.

" There are a couple of good books on Amazon, look up ADHD or go to some websites. I have ADHD, but I figure it as a advantage, not an illness. I can problem solve ouside of the box. Try Amazon it is a good place to start to understand. "

" You are not alone. and you have a right to be frustrated with ignorant people. just an fyi, Make sure that you supplement any meds with therapy with a professional who specializes in ADHD. Combined, the changes of success increase to 80 percent! There is an emotional and coping component to ADHD that makes life more challenging, and pills can't teach those skills. Also, the pills do work, thank goodness, but they aren't good listeners. Hang in there, and you are not alone in your frustrations. there are many ignorant people out there, and I get frustrated with them immensely too. "
