How common is it for adults with ADHD/ADD to be on Ritalin? I'm 25 and I've been on Ritalin for a few years now. I know that a lot of children take Ritalin for ADHD/ADD. I don't know any adults besides me that take Ritalin for ADHD/ADD. Please reply back. Thanks. Dawn

" I've been on Ritalin for about a year and I'm almost 21. It's been very helpful- I take a low dosage (20-40 mg) only on weekdays. I have ADD.

If anything, It's probably safer for adults because our brains aren't rapidly developing. "

" I was age 50 when diagnosed which answered a lot of questions about some of my past behaviors. I am on Ritalin ( 30 or 40 mg a day depending on what my schedule is)and it has changed my life, relationships, and self-esteem for the better! Typically, one has been ADD for life, but we females can learn to cope easier than the males. I got thru high school by sitting in the front of the class, tryed HARD to stay focused, and asked for a lot of one on one help. Got thru college the same way, but never developed good study habits. Did a lot of body movement...walking, shifting around in chairs, leg shaking, etc. My own calming stratgies. So...there are a lot of us out there...many undiagnosed. So...you are not alone. "

" Dawn,
You're not alone. I'm 23 and was diagnosed more than a year ago and have been trying different AD/HD meds. For me, Ritalin has been the only one that has worked well. Feel free to read my journal about my experiences and to email me through DS. I'd be glad to help where possible. Best to you!!

TGG "

" Ritalin, Adderal, Vyvanse, they are all stimulants. I have taken two of the three...You are very common. Just because you are an adult doesn't mean you don't use the same meds..we need them more because as adults our lives require MORE focus!!! "
