Hi,
My add/adhd/odd son just started a new medication called Daytrana. It comes in a "patch" form, rather than a pill. Do any of you have experience or thoughts about this medication? Thanks! Posted on 01/07/08, 01:01 pm |

I am the Daytrana patch. I have been on it about two months. I really like it. It is the first stimulant medication that I have been on for ADD. The first couple weeks, I didn't notice much of a difference because I was on such a low dose and it has to be titrated up slowly. Now I am at max dosage of 30mg patches. My husband would lose his head if it wasn't for these patches. I have had no trouble sleeping at night. I put my patches on about 6am and they come off at 4 pm or so. Whenever I remember to take them off around that time. The do take a bit of time to kick in, in the am. So I think that can be a bit of a down fall for some school age kids. I have personally found that without medication, I do okay in the morning, it is about 10 am when thing start to fall apart for me. So with that being said the time it takes to kick in, in the morning, kind of works out. Good luck.

We were offered Daytrana for my 9 year old but he is allergic to the adhesive from band aids and getd welts. It is supposed to be a good delivery system if you can get past the skin problems.

My daughter was on Daytrana for a few months. I absolutly loved it! It took about an hour to start working, had few side effects and the ones it did have went away after a few weeks. The only problem was that after she had been on it for about three months she started getting welts under areas of the patch. Then the welts got so bad that areas started turning purple. Of course, we knew we needed to switch meds. We switched to Ritalin, just plain old Ritalin, which has the same active ingredient but is $110.00 a month cheaper! It works just the same.

YES! My 7yr old started the patch 6wks ago and we have loved it. I hated giving him Focalin because it changed him but this delivery system is so great that I still have my son but better because he is able to focus and do well in school. He hated his other "brain medicine" but he likes his "body sticker". He calls it his "be good" sticker. He puts it on at 7ish and takes it off at 245 (at school) so that he won't rebound at bedtime. He is on 10mgs. You know they are on too much meds when they cry a lot that is what the Pediatric Phychiatrist told me. Good luck with the patch - it has been the best thing for us but every ADHD kid is differnt.
