Help finding right meds.

My son just turned 7 and we are having a hard time finding the right meds for him. He is currently on Concerta. This has helped with his focus in school but he is so emotional toward the end of the afternoon. Today after the bus dropped him off, he refused to come in the house and sat in a snow bank at the end of the driveway because he wanted to play with his friend. I told him his friend wasn't home, but he just got teary and started to cry, and still refused to come in. He had been on ritalin and adderall before this, and they made him a ZOMBIE - AND gave him terrible stomachaches too. He would just get so sad and say he was stupid and it just breaks my heart. Is this how he is "coming down" from the drug? He has always been a good sleeper so I don't want to start having issues with that. Is he overdosed? He's only 50# and is on 18 mg. Concerta. Do these side effects start to level off? Has anyone been through this? Please help. jen

" No, we haven't had reperdone yet. I was hoping that Concerta would be the answer, but it doesn't look like it. How old are you and how long have you been on risperdone? I think I read somewhere that the side effects start to diminish over time but it was just so heartbreaking to watch him--esp. on the adderal and ritalin. He was so flat, like in a trance. We gave him the Concerta again this morning and sent him on his way. He was in a great mood. I'll see at 3 if it lasted. "

" Hi...If I remember correctly...and god knows somedays are a bit of a blur...lol Concerta is basically a long lasting Ritalin.....The Adderall is also a long lasting stimulant! My son has taken them all...they worked for a short time then nothing! Ummm lets see, there was problems with stomach aches/constipation and not wanting to eat with all three..he now takes strattera(not a stimulant).. I've learned over the years...that it is the dose of the drug...not only the drug that can affect the person taking it. For instance..too high= bad side effects, too low= not working to potential. The new med vyvance i don't know anything about...can it be given in patch or pill form? I'm going to look into that as well!
Btw, we tried respirdol and dexidrine together...that was a total blow out for us!! BUT that does not mean it won't work for someone else!!! Kids/people in general are all different...their hormones/chemical makeups are different..so hang tight..something will start to help! :o) Not much help ...but that is my two cents worth...:o) "

" Vyvance can be opened and put in a drink and taken that way for those who won't swallow pills like my son. It is a long acting derivative of Adderral with much less side effects, so I am told. "
