New ADHD med Vyvanse

I've been looking back through the posts and found little information on Vyvanse. I know it's really new but I thought I'd see if anyone has had any luck with it.
My sons therapist started him on it - took his first pill today. The therapist said he's seen amazing results with it. He knew about it a couple of months ago but wouldn't let us try it until he knew how it would work. So, now we try it. We were going to need to adjust meds anyway - the meds my son were on weren't holding. I'm not too worried about side effects - the therapist said it's similar family of Adderal XR, which is what my son was taking, so there shouldn't be much for him to adjust to. It "sounds" like a great new med but I'm not holding my breathe - we've tried those before and they didn't work as well as the Adderal. Stattera made him sick to his stomach - Daytrana wouldn't stay on his body - that type of thing. Anyway, if anyone has had any experience with it, please let me know. Posted on 10/14/07, 04:10 pm |

I haven't had experience with it, but we may have to change meds for my son too, so I would like to know how it works for yours...also, what is it costing you, if you don't mind me asking? Does your insurance cover it at all and is it an extended release pill? Thanks!!

Vyvanse will cost around $150 for a 30 days supply. We don't have prescription insurance - everything is out of pocket, so I can't tell you whether it is covered or not. Vyvanse is supposed to last for 12 hours. If you do a search for it - you'll find their website where you might find out some more information. It's supposed to be the "next greatest pill". Only time will tell. I never believe anything until I see the proof.

My daughter took Vyvanse for a month and the results were this. For two weeks she was always tired and wanted to sleep all the time, then the last two weeks the medicine didn't work at all. She acted like she did when she didn't take meds. Also, it never really seemed to work much at 6pm like they said it is supposed to. It may have something to do with the person taking it. My daughter responds the best to Daytrana (the patch). I think it may have something to do with the way it is absorbed into the body through the skin instead of the stomach. Anyway, give it a month and if it's working for your child then that is a wonderful thing!

I just read about Vyvanse in the doctor's office this morning. One of the side effects is stunts the growth. My son is already too short for his age and I don't think I will have him try it. Although he is bound to grow at some point...he's 11 yrs. old and wears a size 7 in men's shoes! He was on Adderall for a few years and eventually had an explosive attitude when he was taking it for so long. Now he takes Focalin XR (5 mg). He acts better and eats better and still can perform at school. After school doing homework is a struggle but he manages. I'll continue to monitor others comments on this new drug at "Daily Strength". Good luck! :0)
