Mommy Crushes: Harmful or Harmless?
Mommy Crushes. They're more common than you might think, or like to admit.
It can happen to anyone. At anytime. Over anyone.
I admit I've had a crush on Bon Jovi since I was 15 years old. Every time I hear Jon Bon Jovi's voice, I get that familiar butterfly pang in my stomach. Still! But I wouldn't necessarily call that a "Mommy Crush." No, that's probably just Mommy holding onto her youth.
However, if we're being honest here, I will also admit that I have a tiny, little crush on my son's baseball coach. Yep. All 6 feet and 25 years of him. What's not to like? He's tall, young, smart, athletic and he's teaching my son to play baseball!
Week after week, Taylor manages to garner my son's attention for nearly an hour and a half and then he sends my son home happy, exhausted and ready for bed time. What's not to love?
Some mommies I have spoken to have admitted to crushes on their car mechanics, handy-men, tennis instructors (so cliche), and even their children's teachers. And it's a known fact that many women crush over their OB-GYN's. It's normal and quite common. Here's a nice, professional and gentle man who actually takes the time to ask how you're doing before he makes his way to your private regions! And the cool thing is, he really does seem to care about your health and well being! Major crush potential.
Yes, Mommy Crushes are real and according to experts they are healthy (as long as they stay a crush and don't turn into an affair or obsession). And while they may be healthy for us moms, it doesn't mean we need to share it with the dads. There's no sense in hurting anyone's feelings!
And for the crushes that aren't so harmless? You know what Bon Jovi would say? "You give Love a Bad Name!"

Ok, so you're implying that the fact that Rafael Nadal is half my age isn't terribly abnormal...I hope.

I have a HUGE crush on Johnny Depp. But it's a family thing, meaning so does my sister (who is 42) and so does my mom! I know there are many more out there like me. He's just way, way too hot!

I guess I don't understand the point...considering we don't choose to have a crush on someone--it happens. Psychologically, they can be damaging...it depends on the degree.

Well! I'm more of a Granny than a mommy now, and quite happily married, but if Mick Jagger came calling.........! Who knows? LOL! IMO crushes are just part of being alive and are harmless unless you do something that could hurt yourself or others.
